University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
Energy Performance Contract
Under an Energy Performance contract with Schneider Electric, VES provided MEP engineering services for the renovation to the Natural Resources Studies Annex (NRSA) Building, the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center (ISTC) Building the Beckman Institute.

The MEP infrastructure upgrade project has goals of saving energy and upgrading equipment past its useful life. As a result, two heat recovery chiller plants were designed, one 200-ton plant in Beckman Institute and a 280-ton plant in ISTC, which supplies heating water to NRSA via new underground heating water utility piping.

The plants are utilized to serve heating loads in these three buildings and supply chilled water to the campus as an additional benefit, saving energy over current steam heating systems and campus chilled water supply.
Also included in the project was the removal of existing steam boilers, the addition of new heat exchangers and pumps, replacement and refurbishment of existing building AHU and associated components, replacement of lab process cooling loop equipment, the addition of new building water heaters to replace existing steam converters, and
re-balancing of all spaces.
