O'HARE GLOBAL
TERMINAL

Completion: December 2028
Size: 2.2M SF
Services: Electrical Engineering, Revit

VES is working under BNP Associates, Inc. (BNP) in association with the City of Chicago for the O’Hare Global Terminal (OGT) project.

For this 2.2-million-square-foot project, Ross & Baruzzini | CAGE Inc. (formerly Cage, Inc.) and BNP, the two most prominent firms in design engineering for airport baggage claim systems, will collaborate on the most significant airport expansion project in the country.

VES will develop new Revit (2020) content of baggage handling systems with common shared parameters for use by all three collaborating firms (BNP, Ross & Baruzzini | GAGE, Inc., and VES). Once developed, families will be deployed to the baggage handling model on Autodesk’s BIM 360 cloud server, where all the collaborators will work on a unified model, real-time, from any location around the world.

VES will also provide electrical engineering and design services to support the baggage handling system throughout the airport expansion.

The OGT will be designed by Jeanne Gang as part of a collaborative design joint venture between Studio Gang, Solomon Cordwell Buenz (SCB), Corgan, Milhouse Engineering & Construction, Inc., and STLarchitects that was formed specifically to realize this project.

VES is playing a vital role in the O'Hare Global Terminal project by providing expertise in Revit content development, BIM collaboration, and electrical engineering. The project's innovative approach, utilizing BIM 360 and a collaborative design partnership, sets a new standard for large-scale airport expansions.

CHICAGO EXECUTIVE AIRPORT U.S. CUSTOMS AND BORDER PROTECTION

Completion: Spring 2021

Size: 34,000 SF

Services: MEP/FP Engineering

The Chicago Executive Airport, in Wheeling, is home to a new U.S. Customs and Border Protection facility, the largest federal law enforcement agency of the United States Department of Homeland Security. The 3,400 SF facility is located along the south end of the airfield where a former hangar once lived.

As a subconsultant to 845 Design Group, Virtual Energy Solutions (VES) provided MEP/FP consulting engineering services as the Engineer of Record for the new facility.

Emergency backup systems were designed consisting of a generator, bypass isolation and automatic transfer switches. Uninterruptible power supplies, and manual transfer switch with a tap box were designed to meet the updated Section 708, Critical Operations Power Systems, of the 2017 National Electrical Code (NEC). A clean agent fire protection system was designed for coverage of the security and telecommunications rooms, and the mechanical and electrical lighting systems were designed to meet the 2018 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC).

The new U.S. Customs and Border Protection facility is a crucial addition to the Chicago Executive Airport. It provides essential services for travelers and businesses, while also enhancing security and border protection measures. VES's contributions to the project were essential in ensuring the facility's operational efficiency and compliance with relevant codes and standards.
