VES, a leading provider of Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection (MEP/FP) engineering design services, partnered with 845 Design Group to deliver a comprehensive solution for this complex design-build project. The project aimed to revitalize the facility's interior, enhancing its functionality and aesthetic appeal to align with the company's evolving brand identity.

By focusing on staff efficiency and well-being, the renovation transformed the workspace into a modern and inspiring environment. The project scope encompassed a variety of spaces, including open-concept office areas designed to foster collaboration and creativity, dedicated break rooms and lounges for relaxation and rejuvenation, a multifunctional training room to accommodate employee development initiatives, and gender-specific restroom and lounge areas equipped with locker rooms to support employee needs.

Executing this project within an operational facility presented significant challenges. To minimize disruptions and ensure uninterrupted manufacturing processes, VES meticulously planned and coordinated the renovation phases. Rigorous safety protocols were implemented to protect both workers and existing staff. By leveraging their expertise in MEP/FP engineering, VES optimized system designs to accommodate the new space layout while integrating energy-efficient technologies to support the company's sustainability goals.

The successful integration of the company's rebranding efforts was a critical component of the project. VES closely collaborated with the design team to select materials, finishes, and lighting fixtures that resonated with the brand's messaging and created a cohesive visual identity throughout the space. The end result is a revitalized facility that not only enhances employee satisfaction but also strengthens the company's overall brand image.

 

LACUNA LOFTS TENAT SUITES AND 
ROOFTOP DECK

Lacuna Lofts is home to what was once the world’s largest macaroni factory, The Chicago Macaroni Company.

Housed within the 250,000 SF warehouse facility, Lacuna Lofts is now home to artists and creatives encompassing a cultural arts center, events venue, and shared workspaces. Residents occupy the 2nd thru the 5th floor, with additional event space on the 1st floor and throughout the building.

VES is providing complete MEP engineering renovation to the 5th-floor tenant suite adjacent to the roof deck. Renovations to this suite include a complete HVAC upgrade from existing small packaged AC/furnace units to larger rooftop commercial HVAC units to support the increased occupancy load and provide code-required mechanical ventilation and new restrooms.

We are also providing professional electrical and plumbing engineering services to provide power to lighting, equipment, and receptacles for the 6,000 SF rooftop deck and bar, and water and sanitary connections to the bar sink.

​Lacuna Lofts' transformation from a macaroni factory to a thriving cultural hub is a testament to the power of repurposing historic buildings. GBA UIUC PETASCALE COMPUTING FACILITY

The project entails a comprehensive expansion of the power and cooling infrastructure within Zone 4 of the National Petascale Computing Center's datacenter. Building upon a foundational conceptualization study previously conducted by GBA, the project scope encompasses the design and implementation of new chilled water distribution systems to accommodate future equipment installations.
 
Specifically, this project will involve the installation of six, six-inch chilled water distribution header lines—three dedicated to chilled water supply and three to chilled water return—which will seamlessly integrate with the existing eighteen-inch loop. These new header lines will be strategically positioned beneath the raised floor area to optimize space utilization and accessibility.

To ensure future scalability and adaptability, eight additional six-inch taps equipped with valves will be incorporated into the north end of the loop. These taps will serve as connection points for future header lines, providing flexibility for evolving datacenter requirements.
 
Finally, the project scope includes the provision of one-and-a-half-inch supply and return connections to support rack-mounted equipment across five designated rows. This critical infrastructure will facilitate efficient power and cooling distribution to the high-performance computing equipment housed within the datacenter.
