Department of Veterans Affairs
Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital
GU Clinic Renovation

VES is conducting research studies of best practices for GU Clinics and surveying the existing infrastructure to verify conditions. The current GU Clinic is approximately 6,265 square feet, including the procedure area, which is not adequate for its intended use. More exam rooms are needed and better utilization of the space. VES is developing a design within the 4,200 SF clinical space footprint that will add more exam rooms and balance other areas.

VES prepared three schemes with cost estimates for the clinical staff to review the options and recommend the preferred scheme, including elements from the other two schemes not selected. These three schemes were presented, and Scheme 3 was approved to move forward.

The project is in keeping with the vision statement of the Veteran's Affairs, “To provide veterans the world-class benefits and services they have earned – and to do so by adhering to the highest standards of compassion, commitment, excellence, professionalism, integrity, accountability, and stewardship.” As it relates to patient care, provide care in a timely matter; more exam rooms are needed.
